Fixed structure

In addition to its purity, our salmon excels in its firmness. In the land-based facility, a constant supply of oxygen ensures a natural water current that the salmon swim against. This active lifestyle strengthens the salmon’s musculature, resulting in a firm meat structure that is juicy and delicate in texture. At the same time, the increased activity results in a lower fat content than in traditionally farmed salmon.

Omega 3

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that the body needs to maintain healthy function but cannot produce on its own. Therefore, it is necessary to get Omega-3 through the diet, and salmon is one of the richest sources.

Although the fat content in a Skagen salmon is lower than in traditionally farmed salmon, the concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids is high. When the salmon swims against the current, muscle mass increases and the total fat content decreases. In this process, the saturated fatty acids – the unhealthy fat – are reduced and the concentration of Omega 3 fatty acids increases. This is because these polyunsaturated fats are a stable part of the fish’s fatty acid profile.

The exercise thus results in a healthier fish with a lower total fat content, but still with a high level of the beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids.
