The new EU directive for extended packaging liability has been in the works for a long time, but is still an unknown quantity for the majority. That is why Karsten Ehrhardt, country manager for CHEP in Denmark and a new member of Food from Denmark, referred his business partner, Lars Bruntse from ERP Denmark, to a review of the DPA, and concrete advice to get off to a good start.
Because the deadline for registering one’s production company in the DPA register has passed, only 17% have done so. This means that approx. 35,000 companies right now risk being fined or reported to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.
Delay and confusion have kept many businesses from registering. In addition, it can seem unmanageable, especially for smaller export companies, to familiarize themselves with the laws and regulations of other EU countries for producer responsibility.
Fortunately, there is help to be had from collective arrangements and established partnerships with suppliers who already work based on circular models.
Lars Bruntse, in collaboration with CHEP, provides a guide on how to easily and clearly get off to a good start with the new producer responsibility and packaging registration. What can you handle yourself and where can you get help?
